From my experience…
As a local Bay Area magician for hire, having performed at hundreds corporate events and private parties, I am often engaged by clients early in the planning process. These prospective clients sometimes ask me to provide venue recommendations. Since I’ve performed in some remarkable spots across Northern California, I thought I’d share some of the most memorable ones here.
Every venue has its own personality, and the atmosphere of a place definitely shapes the experience. My approach with clients is the same: I tailor the format, timing, and style of my magic to serve the goals of their event. As a magician for hire, it’s not about me — it’s about their event. I serve as a part of their team and an event entertainment advisor, if they wish.
So here we go…
Recommended Bay Area Venues for Your Next Event
Upscale Classics
Bimbo’s 365 Club: Located in the historic North Beach neighborhood of SF, it still feels like the 1950s inside Bimbo’s—in the best way, reminiscent of an era where people used to dress to the hilt (SF these days is much more casually dressed compared to New York, for example). Originally a club for jazz, lounge, and big band styles, Bimbo’s has old-school style and charm and feels like the quintessential classic San Francisco experience. It’s a time capsule that makes a standard SF company off-site feel like a genuine “night on the town.” When I performed there, it was chosen by a financial services company as part of their offsite and corporate holiday party for 200 employees who flew in from around the country, giving everyone that “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” feel. For this private event, I started with strolling close-up magic during the happy hour and ended with a 15-minute stage show that closed out the event.
Amador Club: Tucked inside the old Bank of Italy building in the Financial District of SF, this place has a certain gravitas. I performed at a Roaring Twenties-themed party for a milestone birthday. If you’re looking for a Great Gatsby feel, the top floor of the Amador Club (which has a view of the Transamerica Pyramid) feels like a speakeasy. The Amador Club has character and is the perfect location near the Moscone Center for a Dreamforce client appreciation reception.
Nightlife & Play
Madarae: This venue can really house a heck of a party. I was there for a great one! It’s dark, sleek, and your neighbors won’t ask you to turn down the music. I was hired to perform for a charitable organization’s fundraiser, and I adapted my approach to perform highly visual magic that communicated well in a dark and loud environment. For planners, venues like this create an energetic setting.
The Detour: On the edge of the Castro neighborhood, this arcade and bar buzzes with pinball machines and joysticks clicking. It has an informal vibe that a startup incubator client I work with goes to year after year. It’s the kind of spot companies choose for relaxed team events and startup parties.
The Unexpected
AutoVino: AutoVino in San Carlos borders Silicon Valley, and it was perfect for a 60-person manager off-site I was hired to perform at for one of the big companies we all know based in Menlo Park. The venue is both a wine bar and a high-end garage that displays classic cars. The place sparkles. For the client, I provided my Wonder Bar experience, where guests were encouraged to place their wine glass down at my wonder experience station, watching my magic and engaging in optical illusions, learning magic, solving puzzles, and engaging each other in games that created connection among them.
Gents Barber Club: While Santana Row in San Jose is not known for its innovative stores and restaurants, Gents Barber Club will surprise you. Primarily it’s a luxury barbershop, but it flips into a lounge for private events. The real estate holdings client I performed for served food and drinks, as well as a cigar station, and my strolling magic, all the while its guests got haircuts. Who knew?
The Heavy Hitters
de Young Museum: Located in SF’s Golden Gate Park, the de Young is an impressive setting for galas, fundraisers, and large corporate celebrations, with Wilsey Court serving as the museum’s premiere event space for receptions and banquets. I performed there for an annual awards dinner for a large healthcare provider, entertaining in Wilsey Court with magic between speeches and during the cocktail reception before the dinner. The soaring ceilings and surrounding artwork made it easy to keep guests engaged whether they were seated for the program or mingling with colleagues.
Napa Valley Wine Train: With the station in Downtown Napa, Napa Valley Wine Train is a very special venue. I performed for employees there as part of their holiday party, and it felt like stepping into a moving vintage lounge. Guests boarded beautifully restored Pullman railcars for a multi-course gourmet meal paired with Napa wines while rolling past vineyards and valley views. The Wine Train specializes in group experiences and corporate events, offering options like private or semi-private railcars, customized menus, wine flights, and even onboard audio/visual support for presentations or awards. It’s a great fit for teams that want their holiday party to feel like a shared adventure rather than another night in a ballroom.
